Celine Ang, Caregiver
Celine is a caregiver to her mother, Mdm. Kok Ku Lin, who has dementia.
For Celine, the holiday season has become a quiet measure of how much life can change.
About a decade ago, in 2014, she was newly married and moving out of her parents' home, building her own with her husband. However, come five years later in 2019, a stroke had rewritten her mother’s health, leading to a late, but eventual vascular dementia diagnosis. Celine's father initially stepped in as the primary caregiver. However, after his own health failed in 2024, the fundamental responsibility landed on Celine. As the only child, she found then that her life became a daily shuttle between two households.
The festive bustle many associate with December has long been muted in her small family. But when asked about her fondest holiday memory, she doesn’t mention presents or parties. Rather, she recalls the simple, now-priceless ritual of her parents going to the market nearby together. Sometimes she would join them for breakfast. It was ordinary, but it was everything.
That quiet togetherness is what the holidays used to mean. Now, they look different.
Now, Celine opens her home to you. Step into her world, explore her spaces, discover her memories, and witness the quiet strength of a caregiver's touch.
